The Amsterdam Salon Fleet Foundation exists to preserve Amsterdam’s maritime heritage. It focuses on recognized historic salon boats that operate solely by appointment for a single group and do not cause any nuisance.
Reinhard and the Salon Fleet
There are still photos of a young Reinhard growing up in the polder, sometimes soaked. “We were almost the first residents of Dronten and had a farm with red-and-white cows.” After his youth, Spronk studied and worked all over the world before settling in Amsterdam—a journey with a beginning and, hopefully, a fulfilling end for him. “From a homemade raft to protector of the Amsterdam Salon Fleet.”
That is why Spronk, on Wednesday [2024], brought the matter before the Council of State with the Salon Fleet Foundation. While the judge examines the alleged injustice, Reinhard Spronk is trying to get the historic salon boats listed as UNESCO World Heritage.
